About Me

I’m a counselor and coach with 20 years’ experience of working with people from a variety of backgrounds and across different countries. I began in the helping profession as a clinical social worker in the UK. In those days, I worked with clients who had complex needs due to their enduring mental health issues. My work took me through a range of settings from community teams, to hospitals and prisons. These were tough environments but what never ceased to amaze me was how resilient my clients were in the face of enormous challenges.

As I moved countries, from the UK to the Philippines to Japan and finally to settle in Sri Lanka, I continued seeing clients and also trained further in Solution Focused Brief Therapy and as a Solution Focused coach.

As a counselor, I see adults (individuals and couples) and older adolescents (aged 16 and up). I deal with issues such as depression, anxiety and stress. I also offer grief counseling and this covers not only bereavement but grief and loss in many other contexts such as loss of job, empty nester syndrome, relationship breakdown, and moving countries.

As a coach, I help people work their way through different issues they may encounter either at work or at home. These include time management, anger management, tricky relations with colleagues/clients, work-life balance, thinking through career choices. I help people to formulate goals and work towards them in small, manageable steps.

How do i find a good counselor?

There are many counselors in Sri Lanka offering a range of services for individuals, couples and families. Searching on the internet is one way. A professional counselor or therapist will have a website in which he or she will explain how they work. Another way is by word of mouth recommendation. Sometimes doctors will know of counselors that they are happy to recommend.
